Chris McQ ‘Battlefield’ Movie Should Adapt The Series’ Forgotten Best Game

Filmmaker Peter Berg is currently deep in development on a movie adaptation of the popular "Battlefield" video game franchise. With a sprawling military shooter series that spans World War II, modern conflicts, and even futuristic wars, the big question is which era and story the film should tackle. While many fans point to the modern setting of "Battlefield 3" or "Battlefield 4," director Chris McQ reportedly believes the best source material is the series' most forgotten gem.

That game is "Battlefield: Bad Company 2." Released in 2010, it was a rare blend of tight, explosive combat and genuinely funny character work. Unlike the grim, serious tone of the mainline entries, "Bad Company 2" followed a squad of misfit soldiers who bickered, joked, and stumbled through a mission in Russia. The writing was sharp, the set pieces were massive, and the destruction physics were revolutionary for its time. A film adaptation could lean into that rare mix of humor and high-stakes action, something the "Call of Duty" movies have never attempted.

McQ has hinted that the film needs a strong, memorable cast of characters, not just a series of explosions. The "Bad Company" squad offers exactly that: four distinct personalities with real chemistry. If the movie can capture the game's chaotic, funny, and surprisingly emotional tone, it could stand apart from other military blockbusters. The challenge will be convincing a studio that a war film with jokes can still feel dangerous. But if anyone can pull it off, it is the team that remembers the game that fans still call the best in the series.
