Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery have completed their merger, and fresh details confirm that the two companies' gaming divisions will be combined into a single operation. Warner Bros. Games, the label behind the Batman Arkham series, Mortal Kombat, and Hogwarts Legacy, will now sit alongside Paramount's gaming efforts under one internal banner.
The move follows pressure from Skydance, which played a central role in pushing the deal forward. According to people familiar with the plans, leadership wants a leaner structure that avoids duplicated teams, overlapping licensing deals, and competing budgets. Bringing the studios together is meant to cut costs and concentrate resources on fewer, larger projects.
For players, the immediate effect is unclear. Existing titles and ongoing support for live service games are expected to continue without interruption. What changes is how future games get greenlit. Franchises once managed separately, such as DC characters and Paramount film properties, could now share technology, marketing, and release schedules.
Employees were told the transition will take months, not weeks. Some studios may be consolidated, while others keep their names but report to a new chain of command. Layoffs have not been ruled out. Analysts say the merger gives the combined company more leverage when negotiating with console makers and streaming platforms, though it also raises questions about how many games a single publisher can realistically ship each year.
