A price tag of 70 pounds combined with a five-year wait should come with the strong expectation of a high-quality product. Unfortunately, that is not what is entirely on display, and Marvel's Wolverine comes off more as a disappointment than anything else.
The combat system tries to blend brutal melee attacks with a healing factor mechanic, but the result feels uneven. Enemies scale in ways that make early encounters frustrating rather than challenging. Stealth sections appear frequently but lack the polish found in other titles from the same studio. The story moves at a slow pace for the first several hours, and several side characters receive little development before they are pushed aside.
Technical problems also hold the experience back. Frame rate drops occur during larger fights, and textures sometimes load late during cutscenes. A few missions repeat the same environments with only minor changes, which makes the game feel stretched rather than focused.
There are bright spots. The voice acting is solid, and the animation during finishing moves captures the character's ferocity. Yet these moments are not enough to carry the whole package. For a project with this much time and money behind it, the final result feels unfinished. Fans deserved better.
