The studio responsible for the game MindsEye is reportedly in the process of closing its doors for good. According to multiple accounts, Build A Rocket Boy has begun laying off staff, and the cuts appear to go far beyond a typical restructuring. Sources familiar with the situation describe the layoffs as a precursor to a full shutdown rather than a temporary cost cutting measure.
MindsEye launched to a mixed reception, with players and critics pointing to technical problems and uneven performance. The game had been positioned as a major release for the studio, which was founded by former Rockstar veteran Leslie Benzies. His track record generated significant interest before launch, but the final product struggled to meet expectations.
The reported closure adds to a difficult stretch for the industry, which has seen widespread job losses over the past two years. Entire teams have been dissolved, and several high profile projects have been cancelled without warning. For the developers at Build A Rocket Boy, the news means uncertainty about severance, future employment, and unfinished work.
Neither the studio nor its parent company has issued a formal statement confirming the shutdown. Employees have reportedly been informed of the decision internally, but official details remain scarce. If the reports hold up, MindsEye will stand as the studio's only major release, a project that arrived with enormous ambition and departed with far less.
