Lara Croft Effigy Planned for Derby Market Hall

A fibreglass effigy of the Tomb Raider star is being brought to Derby Market Hall. The statue honoring Lara Croft, the iconic video game adventurer, will soon find a home in the city center as part of a broader effort to celebrate local connections to the famous character.
Derby officials confirmed the installation is moving forward after months of planning. The figure stands several feet tall and depicts the explorer in her signature pose, complete with dual pistols and rugged attire. Organizers say the piece is designed to draw visitors and spark interest in the market hall, which has undergone significant renovation in recent years.
The character of Lara Croft was originally created by a Derby-based studio, giving the city a unique claim to the global franchise. Fans have long argued that the region deserves a permanent tribute. The new statue aims to fill that gap and provide a photo opportunity for tourists and residents alike.
Local business owners welcomed the news, saying the attraction could boost foot traffic. A formal unveiling date has not been set, but installation work is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
