Indie Hit 'Mina the Hollower' Moves 300,000 Units in Just Three Days

Indie Hit 'Mina the Hollower' Moves 300,000 Units in Just Three Days

The retro-styled action-platformer "Mina the Hollower" has shattered sales expectations, moving over 300,000 copies within its first 72 hours of release. The game, which launched on PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S, is also currently the highest-rated video game of 2026 according to aggregate review scores.

Developed by a small independent studio, "Mina the Hollower" pays homage to classic Game Boy Color and early 2000s action games. Players control Mina, a young inventor who uses a mechanical digging claw to burrow through underground environments, fight monsters, and solve puzzles. The pixel art style and chiptune soundtrack have drawn heavy praise from critics.

Reviewers have highlighted the game's tight controls, clever level design, and a surprisingly emotional story about loss and invention. On OpenCritic, it holds a 93 out of 100, making it the best-reviewed release of the year so far, ahead of several major AAA titles.

The strong launch is notable because the game was crowdfunded in 2023, raising just over $1.2 million. The studio had projected selling roughly 100,000 copies in the first month. The rapid sell-through has already led to a second printing of physical editions for the Switch and Xbox. The developer has also confirmed that a free update adding a boss rush mode is in the works, with a paid expansion planned for late 2026.
