IAB unites three ad marketplaces as US creator spend hits $44 billion

The Interactive Advertising Bureau is consolidating three of its major industry events into a single gathering next September in New York. The move brings together the Podcast Upfront, the Gaming Summit, and the Creator Upfront under one roof, a direct response to how advertising budgets have shifted across digital media in the past few years.

The timing is not accidental. New data from the IAB shows that US spending on creator-driven content has hit $44 billion this year, a figure that now rivals traditional television and outpaces most print and radio categories. Podcast advertising alone is expected to grow another 12 percent in the coming year, while in-game ads are seeing similar momentum as more brands chase younger audiences who spend their time across these formats rather than on linear TV.

What this means in practice is that media buyers will no longer attend three separate events to plan their campaigns. Instead, they will face a single week where podcast hosts, gaming publishers, and social media creators all pitch for the same slice of the budget. That creates both opportunity and friction. Some agencies have already said they welcome the consolidation because it forces clearer comparisons between formats that were previously siloed. Others worry that smaller podcast networks or indie game studios could get lost in a larger, busier event where the biggest creator agencies dominate the floor.

The IAB says the unified format will help advertisers see how these channels work together, not just as separate line items. For example, a campaign might start with a YouTube creator, extend into a podcast read, and finish with an in-game activation. Measuring that full path is still difficult, but the new structure is meant to encourage more integrated planning.

The September dates will also put the combined event in direct competition with several other industry conferences happening around the same time. That means buyers may have to choose where to send their teams, and sellers will have to work harder to stand out. The $44 billion figure suggests there is enough money in the system to support all of it, but the real test will be whether the merged event can deliver clear value without becoming another crowded trade show.
