The Nintendo 64 is rightly celebrated for legendary titles like Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Yet, for every iconic hit, there were other brilliant games that have since faded from collective memory. These five titles were highlights of their time and deserve a second look from retro gaming enthusiasts.
First is Mischief Makers, a quirky 2.5D platformer from Treasure. Players controlled the robot maid Marina, who shook enemies to collect gems in wildly inventive stages. Next, Space Station Silicon Valley tasked players with controlling a menagerie of robotic animals to solve puzzles on a malfunctioning orbital park. The bizarre adventure Rocket: Robot on Wheels was a technical marvel, featuring a fully physics-based world and a unique hub-building mechanic.
The cult classic Blast Corps required players to demolish buildings with various vehicles to clear a path for a runaway nuclear carrier. Finally, the charming Goemon's Great Adventure offered a vibrant, side-scrolling co-op adventure steeped in Japanese folklore. Each of these games showcased the N64's creative spirit, proving the console's library was deeper than its most famous franchises. They remain wonderfully unique experiences waiting to be rediscovered.
